A warm day went no where in morning but in afternoon went for a swim … Clara Lewis starts in Stirling P.O. to–morrow as she has been transferred

… caught train for Adelaide at 10 oclock. Had a look round for a job. Had no luck so caught train home at 12 oclock …

Went to town to see about work, as I learned from a line which Percy Hughes dropped me that a Yankee Firm were going to start to put up new signal arrangements but they wanted no hands until the middle of next week Bought Cards Xmas

Wrote a Birthday card to Clara Lewis. …

… went to Government yds to see if I could get start but had no luck came home full up with disappointment at not being successful at securing work of any kind. … Clara 23 today.

rose at 6 oclock to go and see about work, had no luck…

did not rise until 8–10 there being no prospects of anything. had breakfast and kicked around. Nothing doing

Went watering with Harry until it started raining then we discontinued and went on planting lettuce, as we had to take advantage of the wet day. In evening the weather cleared up and then we all went to the army arrival [?] arrived home at 10.20. after a very enjoyable night.

… received letter from Clara. Had to go over to Arthur Stones to receive same. In afternoon, a severe storm came up making it impossible for me to return to the creek that night so had to stay until following day

rose at 7.20 a lovely morning a vast difference in the atmosphere than yesterday which registered 102–4 deg Went to town with Clara at 11.10. arrived home at 12 oclock in time to enjoy a fine Xmas dinner. Went to see Grandfather in afternoon

rose at 9.20 feeling rather rotten after day outing. Knocked about the house, and chatted to Clara until midday then had dinner got cleaned and went down to the beach until 5.20 came home in good time to have tea … got bed at eleven 30 after going to Pictures.

rose at 5.30 to get Clara off. Went to see her safely off. Then came home and got ready to go to the harbour with father … had a good days fishing …
