A MODEL SUBURB
A MODERN TOWN PLANNING SCHEME
The first step towards the establishment of a model residential suburb, embodying the latest ideas in town-planning, has been taken by the State Government in the purchase of a property known as the Grange Farm… and picturesquely situated between the Clapham railway station and the Goodwood road. The land comprises about 300 acres and is occupied by the military camp for the training of the Expeditionary Forces…
The Attorney General said: … Areas will be reserved in different parts so that as large a number of the inhabitants as possible may enjoy the benefits of a home abutting upon a park space. A COSTLY WARSHIP
The policy of the Commonwealth is to have a navy of its own, to man it with Australians, and as far as possible to build the warships in its own dockyards. That is a policy of self-reliance and self-development, the success of which will be a more valuable contribution to the Imperial cause than the mere buying or hiring of defence, as under the old system, could ever make.
