PATRIOTISM AT NORWOOD
The Acting Mayor of Norwood at a meeting of the local town council on Monday mentioned that three little girls Dorothy Maggs (9), … Marjorie Maggs (8)… and Nina Phillips (11)… had handed to the town clerk £1 14/, being the proceeds of a children’s bazaar held at Mrs. Maggs’ residence for the benefit of the “needy children of Norwood.” Every credit was due to the children for the successful result. Mr. D. R. Goldsmith, of the Norwood Parade, had offered through the town clerk a six roomed house at Henley Beach for the use of returned wounded soldiers…

I hope we shall be able to give the Adelaide public a practical example of subdivision on a plan very different from that one which practically all our suburbs have been designed.

After discussion on the question of minimum wage for women in the Federal Government employ the following motion was carried:-“That the Commonwealth Government be requested to establish a minimum wage for all its women employees, based upon the principle of equal pay for equal effort.”

The policy of the Commonwealth is to have a navy of its own, to man it with Australians, and as far as possible to build the warships in its own dockyards. That is a policy of self-reliance and self-development, the success of which will be a more valuable contribution to the Imperial cause than the mere buying or hiring of defence, as under the old system, could ever make.
