Turned out at 7a m after a sleepless night paraded at 2PM to the doctor who booked me for Hospital. Received letter from Eric Clara, & Mother …
2 February
Am very ill. Had a rough night, was ordered hospital today, have been waiting for ambulance all day waited until 8PM no ambulance turned so I turned in for the night.
3 February
… I had a rough day. Have not gone to Hospital yet. Turned in at 10 P.M feeling very cold.
4 February
… still awaiting ambulance it arrived at 5P.M …. Left for rest camp where I arrived at 8 P.M. after dreary ride in cold
8 February
The cold is very trying, the severest winter in Europe for 22 years …
11 February
wrote to Clara and Mother I have seven more days to go here in isolation
17 February
Today the ice and snow has almost vanished and the temperature has risen considerably But the mud has appeared again

Received orders to evacuate from Hospital. and had to undergo the Fumigation process
22 February
Was re-equipped this morning … and was discharged … and told to report at Bellveiw Farm, at Albert 12 Kilo. away, arrived at Albert tired and foot sore at 6.P.M. and settled at Anzac Rest Camp for the night.
23 February
Turned out at 8.a.m. and had breakfast and was told I should remain here until I received orders as to the movements of the 4 Division who are supposed to be on the move shortly.
26 February
Was discharged from Anzac Reinforcement Camp, Albert, to report to my unit a Beaucourt, where I arrived at 11.45 after a great ride in motor to the adjoining village3 Kilos. away. Reported here and found I was struck off. the strength again Had dinner the best I have had for 21 days consisting of Bread, Cheese, a nice dixie of tea and few cakes which I bought.
27 February
Had my first full day back at the Battery after a good nights sleep. Mounted guard at 5.15 P.M over a prisoner a queer guard as I slept all night and let prisoner take care of himself. Wrote to Clara a and received letter dated Dec 23rd
28 February
on guard at 6.a.m this morning.
